New Zealanders have a love affair with takeaways – but why are they so be bad for you? Many people eat too much fast food. It has become more and more commonplace. But there are lots of problems with it. Here are some the two sides of the argument. Fast Food is bad for your health because it has a lot of salt, sugar, oils, and fat – all the things we should be eating less. It is the reason many people are suffering obesity because they eat too much bad food and don’t balance it with good healthy food and exercise. Eating fast food lowers your strength and fitness. Also it increases the calories your body gets but at the same time you get less nutrients and minerals from the fast food. Another problem with fast food is risk of food poisoning from chicken that isn’t cooked properly. Or people that don’t wash their hands after the toilet and get bacteria on the food. Or else the food isn’t in a refrigerator like it should be. But is ALL fast food bad? Fast food does tend to be higher in fat, sodium and calories and lower in vitamins, minerals and fibre than other foods, but a smart consumer can make wise choices and do a better job of choosing the ‘healthy’ fast foods to eat. Here are some Tips for Choosing Healthier Fast Food. To decrease fat, avoid mayonnaise, cheese and bacon. Ask them to make the burgers or sandwiches with lean meat and lots of salad. To decrease sodium, avoid cheese & pickles on sandwiches and salt on French fries. To keep calories low, order small, junior or child’s sized meals. NOT large, jumbo, super-size or big. Get low fat milk instead of a soft drink or just get water. Also get a side salad with fat free or low fat dressing – adds fibre, vitamins and minerals. And ask for whole wheat bread or buns where available. In conclusion I think that fast food overall is bad for your health because it is too greasy and the way they cook most fast food is unhealthy. People should eat more food raw, or made fresh, not cooked and processed so that a lot of the goodness in it is lost. I think the key is getting a balance. NZ Herald Reporter Martin Johnston wrote this “moderation is the key to controlling your food intake. Too much of any food, even a good food can be bad for your nutritional health.”

TITLE: Bloody Kings and Killer Queens ofLondon Natasha Narayan – Author ISBN: 190415316 Historical Non-Fiction 96 pages A book all about the evil Monarchs from England. 1 Like Henry VIII, husband from hell? Or just a man with a big heart?2 Richard III, murdering uncle or misunderstood softie?3 Elizabeth I, vengeful harpie, or brilliant babe?4 Bloody Mary, say no more!! Or a mixed up kid?5 King John, rotten ruler? Or just a shortie with a height complex? This book is about London’s bloodiest kings and queens. It has all the baddest rulers and all the horrible evil things they did when they were the rulers. My favourite one in the book was Lethal Liz who is Queen Elizabeth the first. She did some pretty strange things like once when thousands were dying of this sickness plague in London,Elizabeth escaped and gave orders that anyone coming from affected areas would get hanged. Then she got the soldiers to set up gallows in the marketplace to show people she meant business. Some of them killed their wives and husbands and even killed other people in the family. They even plotted to kill each other. Like Henry the eighth who had 6 wives, he divorced one, beheaded one, then one died. Then he divorced the next one, beheaded the one after that, and the last wife survived after he died. All the rulers were cruel and tortured prisoners. The book has examples of all the ways they tortured people, and which rulers were really good at it. Look at “Twisted Tortures” on pg 48 it has some really sick ways to torture people to death. They used to put people in cages too small to fit in, and hang them a bit but cut them down before they died, and burn them, stretch them, and after the prisoner finally died they cut the body up into little bits and put parts on display for others to see. Some prisoners would cry out to be killed right away rather than go thru the pain of torture. I enjoyed this book because it had interesting facts and it was written with humour and easy-to-read language. It describes the kings and queens with detail about them and all the good and bad things they did to other people. Other people will enjoy this book if they want to read about how mean the monarchs inEngland really were. It has some weird and scary parts, like skeletons under staircases.

What concerns me? What makes me toss and turn all night long? What I really worry about is – WILL I EVER BE RICH???? John Lennon from the Beatles was on the right track. And he was RICH. He sang “Give me Money, that’s what I want.” On any given night of the week there is a show on TV that gives away lots of money. Such as Deal or No Deal, The Rich List, or Bert’s Family Feud, and not forgetting the all-time best – Lotto. All with the same catch cry – “Show me the Money!!” So why is money so important to me? How many different ways are there to get money? Can I win my money, or should I work for it? Can I make money on the stock market, or should I marry a wealthy mistress? Something I always enjoy is music. My all time favourite instrument – The Cash Register. Its music to my ears, the chi-ching of the almighty cash register, as I ring up another sale In the immortal words of ABBA, “Aha, a-aha, all the things I could do, if I had a little MONEY, it’s a rich man’s world.” Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey, and all those oil tycoons who are filthy rich, so who wouldn’t want to live like them. Interesting words from Pink Floyd, “Money, get away. Get a good job with a good pay and you’re ok. Money, it‘s a gas. Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.” Many organizations want to help us with our money. For example: Sorted.org – wants to tell us how to manage it Investment Groups – tell us how to increase it Kiwisaver – wants us to save it till were OLD??What’s up with that?? Put it away and pile it up until I’m too old, wrinkly, blind, and deaf to be able to enjoy my own money! Pink Floyd also said that money was the root of all evil. But lots of rich dudes help others in poverty by donating stacks of cash to help children in poor countries. Nothing evil about that. Does wealth make you ‘weally weally a-twak-tive’ to women? Well you can be short, fat, bald, old, smelly, crazy and with a face only a mother could love, but as long as you have lots of money, you will always get the beautiful girls. In conclusion, in answer to my question, will I ever be rich. Will being rich make me happy? Yes and Yes. I can buy and sell houses, because I have already bought and sold one house, and made some money. I invested some of my money to make it grow in interest. I put some of the money into another property. And when I am 18 and I get some of the money back then I’m going to spend some of it on a phone, a car, some cool clothes, and a trip overseas. That should make me happy. “SHOW ME THE MONEY!”
