Water Poem

The sparkling stream drifts quietly past the smooth rocks.
It flows gently towards the crashing waves of the rugged coastline.
Like an eagle soaring high above the floating clouds.
Drifting back and forth as it wanders on it’s life-long journey.
Hands slapping gleefully upon saturated mirror-like surface.
Blowing tiny bubbles of laughter beneath the ripples.
Leaping bravely into blue plastic-lined paradise.
Dive down deep and listen to the humming in your ears.
Cruising the waves on a long, sleek, stream-lined plank.
Dipping hands, kicking feet, taking the direct route out to open sea.
Closely examining the horizon for that perfect swell of water.
Waiting for the full force of that thrusting motion, the ultimate challenge.
Delicate droplets of rain falling on the slippery wet grass.
Trickling together into small brook, then into larger waterway.
Searing hot sun evaporates wet particles into clouds of moisture.
Rising up into the ever-changing atmosphere where chilling cold air lingers.
Evil is the foulest creature in the world. His parents are Vile and Viscous. Evil’s only brother is Wicked. His wife’s name is Cruel and his daring son is Malicious. He wears a coal-black hooded cloak smeared with innocent people’s blood. Evil has two red horns sticking out of his forehead like the lead of newly sharpened pencils. His dark blue eyes are hidden from mortal beings.
Evil lives in a haunted castle at the end of the street, opposite the town’s cemetery. He works from home, master-minding plans to take over the world. But he is doomed to failure, because he always ends up being discovered. His wife Cruel works nightshift at a morgue to earn money because Evil cannot hold down a proper job.
Although Evil might not seem black hearted, he most certainly is. In his younger days, he was so devilish that he was expelled from school. Following that he was thrown out of his house. Then the authorities drove him out of town. After that he withdrew into the wilderness to live, nay exist as an unhealthy sinner suffering with unbearable pain. He learned revolting ways to behave, developing into a troublesome demon. Even now Evil dwells on the dark side, always looking for ways to disrupt and destroy.
Evil is what you feel when you are the victim in a miscarriage of justice. He is what you think about when someone betrays you and you have the uncontrollable urge to seek revenge. Evil is what you see when you look into the eyes of the despicable prisoners on death row. Evil’s force surrounds you when you are in a deep dark abyss and no-one or nothing can save you.
Beware of the destruction of Evil, he is hovering just beyond the light, and he can come for you……..when you least expect it.

I am the YELLOW, and the YELLOW is ME
As warm as the sun while the earth rotates around it
As bright as the light shining from my bedroom lamp
As dry as a leaf when the crisp autumn takes over
As yummy as a yolk when I crack open my morning egg
As thin as each yellow page in the back of the phone book
As fast as the bus trying to get around town on schedule
As mature as a petal on a friendly sunflower
As soft as the peel of a half-eaten banana
As important as the daffodil is to the cancer society
As tasty as corn accompanied by melted butter
As loving as the ribbon ‘round the old oak tree
As juicy as the centre of a fresh slice of pineapple
As bold as the road sign warning drivers to slow down
As beneficial as one of De Bono’s six thinking hats
Te Papa
Sparkling jewellery, precious shiny stones
High school students wandering freely around
Peace, love, and flower power on the hippie van
Searing hot rock at the core of our planet
An earth-moving experience where everything rumbles
Native birds beckon from lofty trees
Eyes into the past through the Treaty of Waitangi
Our tipuna stand among us, looking down upon the crowd
Making men into mummies with tongs and other ancient tools
Embalmed with fragrant oils and spices
While caskets await their eternal demise
Step back in time to an era of olden day kiwiana
When life was simple and carefree
Rock Climbing and Abseiling
First thoughts were “Can I DO this?” as I slipped on my harness
Wind whistling around us, waves crashing on to the rocks below
Shaking as I clung perilously to the cliff face
The dangling rope my only life-line to safety
Thank goodness for friends below, cheering me on
Struggling and straining to reach the top
Paired up for the big descent
Locked into the harness and grimacing
For that moment as my image was frozen in time
Cautiously backwards down the rock-face
Glance down at the people below to see how far to go
Can’t see anyone, just….don’t ….freak….out!!!
Trusting others as I am lowered over a ledge
Speed controlled by an out-of-sight operator
Feel my hands go weak as my body tenses up
Cripes, WHERE is the GROUND???
Oh finally, touchdown, and I knew I was safe
Click!! – another photo, this time of sheer relief
